Varadarajanpet (Tiruchy Province)

Everything indicates that this school is well-managed. Everything runs smoothly. The projects are clearly explained, and the entire school exudes both regularity and ambition. This Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) was founded by Frans Schlooz and is open only to boys. A total of 1,600 students, 330 of whom are boarders, range in age from 12 to 18. The other students come from a considerable distance, up to 50 km away.

Good explanations are provided about the projects to which the Frans Schlooz Foundation (SFS) could potentially contribute. These include: 1. School furniture. 2. Water well. 3. Water purification for both boarding schools. 4. Water purification for school use. 5. Solar panels, which significantly reduce energy costs.

The difference can then be used to improve the quality of education. Here too, there is enormous appreciation for what Frans Schlooz has achieved. Next to the DBHSS is a school that’s a few years old: the “Frans Schlooz School of Excellence.” This bilingual primary school caters to more talented girls and boys from the surrounding area. Children from as far away as 40 km are picked up by special “Frans Schlooz of Excellence” buses. Here too, there’s a strong need for more classrooms with solar power.

There’s also a focus on solar projects for the very poorest. These provide light in the evenings, allowing children to do their homework instead of going to bed at 6:00 PM. Furthermore, a social project for elderly people in need is being implemented here.
