Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, co-designed by Frans Schlooz, is a large secondary school. It was the first co-educational school in Tamil Nadu. Frans Schlooz also founded the technical school in Polur.
The target groups here are primarily Self Help Groups (SHGs). The center provides buildings for training these SHGs, which number approximately 1,500 women. These are used for microfinance projects, among other things.
There is a tailoring program here, for 100 women annually. The technical school has a great need for good equipment. Throughout Tamil Nadu, there is a structural need for many, and especially well-equipped, schools. Good education and skilled professionals immediately translate into well-paid jobs. Self-sufficiency is a primary path to advancement.
